Jan. 5, 2012
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Sierra Lee-Dunson, Kierra Lee-Dunson and Torre Blake have signed national letters-of-intent to attend and play volleyball for East Carolina beginning in the fall of 2012, according to an announcement by head coach Pati Rolf Thursday.
"We are very excited to have these three outstanding student athletes join our program here at East Carolina," Rolf said. "They bring a tremendous level of physicality to our team as well as a committed love of ECU. All three are very dedicated students and will be strong members of their class. I am very proud of the current team for an outstanding job in helping bring in such a gifted class."
Sierra Lee-Dunson, a 6-0 middle blocker from Atlanta, Ga., is a product of Lakeside High School where she helped the Vikings to a record of 50-18 during her junior and senior seasons - a mark which includes a 15-0 ledger against area schools. In 2011, Lee-Dunson was a key factor in Lakeside's run to the Georgia AAAA Elite Eight and a third-place finish in the 6-AAAA playoffs.
Lee-Dunson racked up 156 kills and 57 blocks in her senior season, serving as a team captain and producing a .364 hitting percentage to earn the team's best blocker award as well as First Team All 6-AAAA accolades. In addition to her volleyball prowess, she was a member of the track squad and specialized in the discus throw.
Sierra's twin sister and teammate, Kierra, produced 162 kills and 29.5 blocks in the 2011 campaign as well as 19 service aces. She is the two-time Lakeside best offensive player for the varsity squad and was named the junior varsity's most improved player her freshman campaign. A 6-0 middle blocker and right side hitter, Lee-Dunson garnered First Team All 6-AAAA honors. She also earned two total varsity letters as a center for the Viking basketball squad and a high jump and shot put specialist for the track team.
Blake, the daughter of former Pirate and NFL quarterback Jeff Blake, is a 5-8 middle blocker and outside hitter from Austin, Texas and is completing her prep career at Stephen F. Austin High School. She has been a member of the varsity squad since her sophomore year and, as a junior in 2010, was awarded the most valuable player award. Blake has guided the team to a 48-26 record the last two seasons as she served as a team captain. In all, she has earned three varsity letters.
Last season alone, Blake was a Lone Star Honorable Mention All-Texas Team honoree and was named to the all-tournament teams of the Volleypalooza and Austin ISD events. She has earned a great deal of recognition throughout her high school years, including All-Academic accolades from 2009-11 and All-District laurels in 2010 and 2011.
Academically, Blake holds a 4.1 grade-point average and is a National Honor Society member. She graduated with distinction from Trinity Episcopal School and received the institution's Jane Austin Award. Blake has also won the 2009 and 2011 AISD African American Heritage Award and Austin High School's Trustees Scholar Award - the latter for finishing in the top 10 percent of her class.
Blake is in her fifth season of playing club volleyball for Austin Juniors. Her team qualified for the national tournament in 2009 and 2010 as well as winning the Lone Star event in 2010. Currently, Blake is also a member of the 18 Mizuno club.
