GREENVILLE, N.C. - As the spring volleyball season comes to a close, several members of the Pirate volleyball team recently participated in the annual Relay for Life which was held at North Campus Crossing on the campus of East Carolina University.

The Pirates sold T-shirts and walked in the event along with a number of other ECU student-athletes. The Student-Athletes 4 A Cure team, which included Hannah Allgood, Shelby Beasley, Torre Blake, Whitney Campbell, Zarah Cecich, Erika Figueroa, Kierra Lee-Dunson, Sierra Lee-Dunson, Andrea Queck, and Nicole Willis, was successful in exceeding its goal of $2,000 as the squad raised $3,735.43.

More than 80 relay teams registered for the event and 1,522 participants helped raise more than $100,000 for cancer research.

"I am very proud of the volleyball team for being involved with Relay for Life," Head Coach Julie Torbett said. "Cancer research is so important and events like these pull the community together for a great cause."

The volleyball team plans to continue its community service involvement throughout the spring and summer leading up to the start of the season in August.
