GREENVILLE, N.C. –The East Carolina volleyball team and head coach Julie Torbett have announced the 2013 schedule which includes four tournaments and 10 home matches including the East Carolina Classic to be held at Minges Coliseum.
“I am pleased with our 2013 schedule,” Torbett said. “We have a competitive conference with quite a few new members so it will be interesting to see where everything shakes out. Our non-conference schedule provides some opportunities for us to be successful and is also mixed with a few higher level teams to prepare us for Conference USA level competition. It should be a fun and exciting new chapter for ECU volleyball.”
The Pirates will open the year in Winston Salem, N.C., at the Wake Forest Deacon Invitational on Friday, August. 30. ECU will take on the Demon Deacons at 7 p.m., followed by a pair of matches against UNC Greensboro and East Tennessee State on Saturday, August 31.
The East Carolina Classic will take place in Greenville, N.C., from September 6-7. Participating teams include Morgan State, Loyola Chicago, and the Citadel. The Pirates will play host to the Citadel on Friday, September 6 at 7 p.m., and will take on Morgan State and Loyola on Saturday, September 7.
ECU will play a single match at Campbell on Tuesday, September 10, before competing in the Elon Phoenix Classic on September 13-14. The Pirates will go up against NC Central on Friday, September 13, before closing out the tournament against Gardner Webb and Elon on Saturday, September 14.
The Pirates and the Eagles will meet up again on Tuesday, September 17, at NC Central in Durham, N.C. ECU will conclude its tournament swing at the Appalachian State Invitational which runs from September 20-21. East Carolina will battle it out with the host Mountaineers on Friday, September 20, before going head-to-head with Denver and UT Arlington on Saturday, September 21.
Louisiana Tech and Tulane will come to Greenville on October 11 and 13, respectively, for a pair of conference matches. ECU will then head to Huntington, W.Va., for an October 18 match at Marshall, followed by an October 20 match at 2012 C-USA defending champion Tulsa.
ECU will welcome FIU and Florida Atlantic to Minges Coliseum on October 25 and 27, respectively, before the Pirates head to Hattiesburg, Miss., for a match up at Southern Miss on Friday, November 1.
The Pirates will return to North Carolina for a pair of home contests against Middle Tennessee (Nov. 3) and Charlotte (Nov. 10), with a road trip to North Carolina A&T for a non-conference match on November 5 between the two home matches.
East Carolina will wrap up the regular season in Texas with a match at UTSA in San Antonio on Friday, November 15, followed by a contest at UTEP on Sunday, November 17.
The 2013 Conference USA Tournament is scheduled for November 21-24 at Alumni Memorial Gym on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The winner of the event earns the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.
