Volleyball Moves Back Into Minges
Aug. 16, 2010
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina volleyball team officially began its second week of preseason camp with two workouts at Minges Coliseum Monday. It is the first time this preseason that the squad has been able to utilize its home court, since the floor underwent refinishing over the summer.
With the season and home opener against Charlotte just 11 days away, the Pirates have begun to focus more on individual improvement. According to the coaching staff, this will help the squad not only get better individually but also become better communicators in competition.
In the afternoon session the team warmed up, played volleyball "tennis" and worked on ball control via various defensive drills. The period then ended with six-on-six serve-receive.
ECU also took a hit to its middle attack Monday as head coach Pati Rolf announced that redshirt sophomore middle hitter Briana Fleener will miss the 2010 season due to a recurring injury. Fleener led the team in blocks per set last season at 1.20.
The Pirates will go through two-a-day practices for the next five days until their scheduled off day on Sunday.
East Carolina opens the season with the East Carolina Classic Aug. 27-28 when it welcomes Charlotte, Cleveland State and Liberty to Minges Coliseum. Admission to all home matches in 2010 is free.
