ECU Spikers Split A Pair Of Matches On Opening Day

Williamsburg, Va. -- The East Carolina volleyball team opened its season with a win over William & Mary at the William & Mary Invitational on Friday, 3-1, then fell to Fresno State in its second match of the day, 3-0.

After dropping the first game of the afternoon to the Tribe, the Pirates rallied to win the next three games and take the match. Robyn Drewes led ECU with 15 kills in the match, while newcomer Johanna Bertini was brilliant defensively, recording 15 digs.

In its second match of the day, ECU was swept by Fresno State. Sarah Vick led the team in kills with 10 during the match and Pam Ferris registered 10 digs.

The ECU volleyball team will continue play in the William & Mary Invitational on Saturday. The Pirates square off against Furman at 11 a.m. and then conclude the day with a match against Radford at 5 p.m.
