ECU Volleyballers Drop Two Matches at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, VA - The East Carolina University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches today at the William & Mary Invitational, each by a score of 3-0. The Pirates fell to Furman in the first match of the day, and dropped the second match to Radford.

In match one, the Pirates faced the Furman Paladians, faling 3-0. ECU played all three games of the match closely, falling by scores of 30-20, 30-22, and 30-25. East Carolina led much of the third game, but could not hold on to their lead.

Robyn Drewes and Sarah Vick led the women in kills, each with eight, while freshman Erica Wilson led the team in assists with 15, and sophomore Jessica Vick had 11 assists.

In the second match of the day against Radford, the Pirates again fell by a score of 3-0. ECU played the first two games of the match extrememly close, dropping the first 30-26, and the second 30-27. The women fell in the third game 30-19.

Drewes led all team members with 13 kills, while Sarah Vick, and Pam Ferris each had eight. Wilson finished the match with 30 assists for the Pirates.

Drewes was the only member of the Pirate squad to be named to the All-Tournament team which consisted of eight members, three from Fresno State, two from William & Mary, and one each from ECU, Radford, and Furman.

The Pirates will head to a tournament at Clemson University next weekend, September 6, and will play the host at 7:00 p.m.
