  • CHARLESTON, S.C. - Duke's Carrie DeMange posted a match-high 10 kills while hitting .643 and the Blue Devils out-hit East Carolina .557-.151 as Duke defeated ECU (5-6) in three games, 30-16, 30-11, 30-21, in the first match of the College of Charleston Invitational Friday afternoon. Junior middle blocker Paige Howell led the Lady Pirates with nine kills after hitting .562.

    Junior outside hitter Erica Wilson had nine kills while sophomore Jaime Bevan chipped in seven kills. Sophomore setter Heidi Krug had 26 set assists for the Lady Pirates. Tassy Rufai added nine kills for the Blue Devils who improved to 7-2 on the season. Rufai hit .900 in the match.

    The Blue Devils committed only three attack errors in the match putting down 47 kills on 79 attempts. Duke had nine service aces, three coming from Ali Hausfield.

    ECU continues play in the tournament Saturday. The Lady Pirates will take on the host team College of Charleston at 10 a.m. before wrapping up the tournament at 5 p.m. Saturday night.
