Campbell Rallies to Defeat East Carolina in Five Games, 3-2

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Campbell's Tabitha Turner recorded a double-double with a match-high 23 kills and 11 digs and the Fighting Camels overcame a two-game deficit by hitting .357 as Campbell rallied to defeat East Carolina in five games, 24-30, 23-30, 30-25, 30-24, 15-13, Tuesday night in Williams Arena. Paige Howell led the Lady Pirates with a team-high 16 kills while hitting .364.
Kelley Wernert and Pam Ferris each added 14 kills while Jaime Bevan chipped in 13 kills for ECU. Rachel Templin had 18 kills and Alissa Brackeen and Brittany Russin each had 17 and 11 kills respectively for the Fighting Camels. Brackeen added a double-double with 19 digs to lead four Campbell players with double-figure digs. Sarah Dillon had 15 digs and Crystal Sieber added 14 digs. ECU libero Johanna Bertini led the Lady Pirates in digs with 13. Sophomore setter Heidi Krug recorded 63 assists in the match for ECU. East Carolina finished with 16 service aces in the match, but Campbell out-hit the Pirates .357-.276. East Carolina won game one behind seven service aces and three kills from Bevan and Howell. The Lady Pirates out-hit Campbell .348-.293 to take game two, 30-23, and go into the break with a two-game lead. Brackeen and Turner took over game three for Campbell. Turner put down a game-high six kills and Brackeen added five kills while Campbell out-hit ECU, .333-.227, to force game four. Campbell continued its hot hitting in game four putting up a .469 attack percentage as a team on its way to a 30-24 win forcing game five. ECU rallied from a 9-6 deficit in game five to tie the game, 10-10. The Lady Pirates led 11-10 before Campbell closed the game on a 5-2 run to take the match. Campbell out-hit ECU, .500-.267 in the final game. Tawnee Hensel had 33 assists for Campbell while Dillon added 29 assists. East Carolina returns to action this weekend the Lady Pirates open up Conference USA play on the road at UAB and USF.
