GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina volleyball team will play host to Conference USA rival UAB on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 1 p.m. at Minges Coliseum.
Blazers Top Pirates In Three

ECU and UAB will meet for the 20th time in program history and the Blazers lead the all-time series with a 14-5 record. The last time the two squads met, UAB swept East Carolina in Greenville on Nov. 18, 2011. The Pirates have not defeated the Blazers since 2006 when the Pirates held off UAB in four sets.
The Pirates are coming off of a 3-1 loss against Memphis on Friday night in which junior Nicole Willis slammed 20 kills and posted 12 digs to record her team-leading ninth double-double of the year.
East Carolina is 1-19 overall and 0-9 in Conference USA action and looking to get its first conference win of the season. UAB is currently on a seven-match winning streak and holds a 14-11 overall mark and a 6-3 conference record.
Willis has been a consistent part of the Pirates’ offense this season as she leads the squad with 218 kills on the year. Her 3.63 kills per set rank her eighth in the conference, and she has tallied 172 digs, 30 total blocks and 13 service aces for the Pirates. Shelby Beasley continues to play solid defense for ECU. The junior libero leads the team in digs with 310 and her 4.25 digs per set are good for fifth in the conference. Sophomore Zarah Cecich has emerged as the Pirates’ setter late in the season and has amassed 452 assists to average 7.17 assists per set. Senior Kelly Derby is East Carolina’s leader in blocks with 74 and her 1.01 blocks per set put her sixth in the conference rankings.
