GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina volleyball team will hit the road and travel to Orlando, Fla., for a Friday evening conference match against UCF at 7 p.m., on October 26.

Kavanaugh Enters ECU Record Book in the Pirates' 3-0 Loss to UCF
Kasey Kavanaugh tallied 18 assists which propelled her into the East Carolina career records, but the Pirates were unable to pull out a victory as they were swept by Conference rival UCF (15-25, 16-25, 11-25) Sunday afternoon at Minges Coliseum.

The Pirates and the Knights will face off for the 17th time in program history and the all-time series is tied at eight matches apiece. Earlier this season, UCF swept ECU at Minges Coliseum on Sept. 30. In that match, junior setter Kasey Kavanaugh registered 18 assists totaling 1,182 for her career to break into the East Carolina Top 10 career assists record book. Last season the Knights swept the Pirates in a pair of matches. ECU is looking for its first win over UCF since 2009 when the Pirates held off the Knights, 3-1, in Greenville.

Junior Nicole Willis is the Pirates’ offensive leader this season. She has amassed 226 kills to average 3.59 kills per set which ranks her eighth in the conference. In addition, Willis has also tallied 179 digs (2.84 digs per set) which is good for third on the squad. She has accumulated 32 total blocks, 13 aces, and 11 assists on the year. Shelby Beasley has set the pace for the ECU defense all season and has posted a team-best 323 digs to average 4.25 digs per set which is good for sixth in Conference USA. Sophomore Zarah Cecich has emerged as the team’s setter late in the season and has totaled 471 assists and has a 7.14 assists per set average. Cecich has added 58 digs, 29 kills, 16 total blocks, and 10 service aces on the year. Senior Kelly Derby leads the Pirates in blocks with 76 and her 1.00 blocks per set average is tied for eighth in the league. Derby has been a steady force for East Carolina all year as she has recorded 141 kills, 42 digs, eight service aces and seven assists on the season.



East Carolina is 1-20 on the year and 0-10 in Conference USA action. The Pirates are looking to get on the winning track after dropping a pair of contests to Memphis (1-3) and UAB (0-3) last weekend.
