GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina volleyball team returns to the court Sunday afternoon for a Conference USA matchup with Houston. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at Minges Coliseum.

The Pirates recorded a third set win against Rice Friday, but the Owls recovered in the fourth frame to post a 3-1 victory. Junior Jackie Varnum reached double figures in kills with 10, hitting .318 for the match. Classmate Amanda Lutzow was not far behind as she put down nine. Defensively, junior Nicole Jones racked up 20 digs while Lutzow collected 14. Additionally, Varnum tallied a career-best seven blocks.

Rice enjoyed advantages in kills (54-41), hitting (.189-.086) and digs (58-55), but ECU got the best of the blocking 13-12. The Owls also put up four service aces as opposed to one for the Pirates.

Meanwhile, the Cougars tallied a sweep at Marshall Friday. Lucy Charuk led UH with 13 kills and three blocks. Ingrida Zauere added eight kills and 20 digs while Amber Brooks dished out 30 assists.

The Cougars own a 9-1 lead in the all-time series with the Pirates winning their only match during the 2006 season in four sets.

After Sunday's tilt, East Carolina begins a four-game road swing Friday, Nov. 5 at Tulsa. The contest is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. at the Reynolds Center.
