Volleyball Falls To No. 22 Louisville, 3-0

  • LOUISVILLE, KY. -- The Pirates fell to 22nd ranked Louisville Friday night at Cardinal Arena in front of a standing room only crowd in three games, 30-18, 30-24, 30-14. The Cardinals (21-2, 10-0 C-USA) hit .304 as a team, finishing with 48 kills and only 14 attack errors.

    Freshman outside hitter Kelley Wernert led the Pirates with 11 kills on 25 attack attempts and a .280 attack percentage. Junior outside hitter Erica Wilson added six kills and junior middle blocker Paige Howell and freshman outside hitter Mignon Dubenion each contributed in a losing effort with four kills a piece.

    The Pirates (10-15, 4-6 C-USA) were led defensively by junior libero Johanna Bertini who finished with 14 digs on the night. Sophomore setter Heidi Krug tallied 25 assists and junior outside hitter Pam Ferris collected seven digs for ECU.

    Stephanie Marsh led the Cardinals with 11 kills and only two errors on 30 attack attempts. Anastasia Yartseva added nine kills for Louisville while Jennifer Hoffman finished with seven.

    Louisville's offense was set up by Jennifer Craven and Elena Pilnikova who recorded 21 and 17 assists respectively. Candace Cogan led the defense for the Cardinals with 15 digs.

    East Carolina returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 6 against Cincinnati at 7:30 p.m. for the final road match of the regular season.
