Willis Named to NCCSIA All-State Second Team

GREENVILLE, N.C. –Senior opposite hitter Nicole Willis was named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) Second Team it was announced by the organization Monday afternoon. Fourteen players representing seven different North Carolina Colleges and Universities were selected to the first and second teams. Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by NCCSIA members.
Willis earned the honors for the second consecutive season after playing in and starting in all 32 matches for East Carolina during the 2013 season. She led the Pirates in kills with 424 to average 3.66 per set, while also setting the standard in service aces (18) and points (478.5). Additionally, Willis was third on the team with 283 digs (2.44 per set) and 62 total blocks (0.53 per set).
As a senior, Willis led the Pirates with 14 double-doubles and 24 double-figure kill performances. She also led ECU in kills in 28-of-32 matches and notched a season-best 22 kills against Conference USA foe Louisiana Tech. She tallied a career-high 20 digs in a non-conference contest at Campbell and tied her career-best with six total blocks versus conference rival Charlotte.
The Raleigh, N.C., native concluded her ECU career with 747 kills (3.70 per set), 511 digs (2.53 per set), and 848.5 points (4.20 per set) in two years.
Earlier this season, Willis earned All-Conference USA Second Team honors for her efforts on the court.
Founded in 2002, the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university, or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, softball, and baseball.
