Collins Leads Way As Four Lady Pirates Finish In Top 10 of McAlister's Deli 5k

McAlister's Deli Women's Results GREENVILLE - The East Carolina University women's cross country team, behind the leadership of seniors Jessica Collins and Caitlin Littlefield, continued their strong 2005 campaign with a second place overall finish at the McAlister's Deli 5k, a race in which they hosted at the Lake Kristi course. Two other runners, Megan Walling and Hayley Flynn, also finished in the top 10, tying members of the High Point University team for the most in category at four. Collins placed second, her highest of the season, with an 18:49.55 time which is two seconds off from her best outing of the year, trailing only HPU's Kali Burt (18:33.06) and finishing six seconds ahead of the third place Anna Mae Flynn (Elon). Teammate Caitlin Littlefield earned her best finish of 2005 with a fifth place showing, crossing the stripe at 19:05.85, besting her time from the season-opener at UNC-Wilmington. Megan Walling's ninth place finish (19:39.50) and Hayley Flynn crossing the line at 19:47.76, rounding out the top 10 runners, were the best finishes for each this season, while helping the team to place second among the five teams in competition. Other notables for the Pirates were Tayleigh Davis (15, 20:04.37) and Jessica Raphael (26, 20:45.47), who rounded out the top 30 runners of the competition. ECU's next scheduled meet is the Pre NCAA Invitational, set to be held in Terre Haute, Indiana on the campus of Indiana State University on October 15th.
