Men and Women's Cross Country Split Dual Meet

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Kristian Jorgensen and Kay Livick each set new school records in the 5K as the East Carolina men and women's cross country split a dual meet with Winthrop at Overton's/Lake Kristi on Saturday. The men's team defeated the Eagles, 23-34, while the women's squad narrowly lost to, 30-27.

Jorgensen finished in first place during the men's race by running a school record time of 15:55. The Pirates claimed three of the top five spots in the race as Matt Hanlon and Matt Gorman finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Livick finished second overall during the women's race, but established a new ECU record in the 5K by completing the race in a time of 18:52. The ladies' squad claimed seven of the top 10 spots, including three of the first six. Melinda Dubose and Jessica Collins completed the race in fifth and sixth position.

ECU will host the Overton's/Pirate Invitational at Lake Kristi on Saturday, Oct. 5. Eight colleges and 25 high schools will participate in the meet. ECU will also host the N.C. Intercollegiate Championships at Lake Kristi on Oct. 12 and the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships on Nov. 16.
