Men's Cross Country Finishes First, Women Second at Lake Kristi

    GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The East Carolina men's and women's cross country teams finished first and second respectively at the North Carolina Collegiate Cross Country Championships at Lake Kristi Saturday.

    The men finished with a total time of 2:07:26, placing just ahead of N.C. State (2:07:51) in total time. On the women's side, N.C. State won as a team with a total time of 1:31:29 with ECU placing in second with a time of 1:35:02.

    The men were led by seniors Kyle MacKenzie and Matt Hanlon. MacKenzie finished sixth overall with a time of 25:03 and Hanlon finished just four seconds later in seventh place giving the Pirates two top 10 finishers in the men's 8K run.

    The women were led by junior Jessica Collins who led all Division I runners with a time of 17:47 in the women's 5K run. Her teammate, senior Johanna Allen, placed fourth among all Division I participants with a time of 18:01.

    Both the men's and women's teams will run again on October 30 in Chicago, Ill. for the Conference USA Championships.
