PROVIDENCE, R.I. – ECU quarterback Thomas Sirk has been named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player-of-the-Week according to an announcement by the league office Monday morning.
The Glen St. Mary, Fla. native completed 30 of 39 passes for a career-high 426 yards and three touchdowns to lead the ECU to a 41-38 win at Connecticut in the Pirates' conference opener. Sirk completed his first 11 passes of the game, had 15 completions go for 10 or more yards (5 for 20-plus) and led ECU to 596 yards of total offense - the most since racking up 688 yards vs. Western Carolina in its 2016 opener. It was also the most in American play since a 622-yard performance at UCF in 2015.
Sirk's 426 passing yards are the ninth most in program history and he is the seventh quarterback to register 400-or more yards in a game. The graduate senior threw a season-high three touchdowns (17 yards, 24 yards and 75 yards) all to Davon Grayson, who joined Sirk as an Honor Roll selection.
Grayson had a career game against the Huskies hauling down 11 passes for 223 yards and three scores. His 223 yards are the third-most in program history behind Justin Hardy (230 vs. Tulane/ 2013) and Cam Worth (224 vs. Virginia Tech/2014). Grayson, who became the fifth Pirate to have a 200-yard receiving game, also took home College Sports Madness Conference Player-of-the-Week honors.
ECU (1-3, 1-0 AAC) will play host to No. 18 USF (4-0, 1-0 AAC) Saturday afternoon at Bagwell Field inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12 Noon (EDT) and will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.
