
Pirates Sweep Day One Of Charleston Invitational

Charleston, S.C. –  The East Carolina softball team's offense stayed hot, shutting out both Saint Joseph's and Cleveland State 8-0 and 13-0 in five innings on the first day of the Charleston Invitational on Friday at the Softball Stadium at Patriots Point.

Game One: East Carolina 8, St. Joseph's 0 (5 inn.)
Emma Jackson continued her strong start at the plate for the Pirates, going 2-for-2 and tallying an RBI as East Carolina defeated St. Joseph's 8-0 in five innings in the opening game of the Charleston Invitational.Â

ECU would get on the scoreboard in quick fashion much like yesterday evening, plating two runs in the first inning after scoring on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Morgan Johnson. The Pirates would add to their lead in the bottom of the second frame after an Emma Jackson double would score Makenzie Mason and Annie Kate Dalton's single would bring Jackson across home to go ahead 4-0.

Jayci Chamberlain would hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-0 in the third inning and the Pirates would add on two more runs on a Joie Fittante two RBI single in the fourth inning. Hannah Evans' sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning would score Mason, ending the game in five innings.

Addy Bullis (1-0) picked up the win in the circle, tossing six strikeouts and allowing just two hits in five innings.

Game Two: East Carolina 13, Cleveland State 0 (5 inn.)
Emma Jackson went 3-of-4 at the plate with three doubles and Anna Sawyer went 2-for-2 with an RBI as East Carolina shut out Cleveland State 13-0 in its second game of the Charleston Invitational.

The Pirates continued to stay hot on offense, tacking on four runs in the first inning capped off by Mary-Kathryn Scott's single to plate Anna Sawyer. After retiring Cleveland State's three batters in the top of the second, ECU would extend its lead to five on a Sawyer RBI single. Jackson would make in 6-0 in the bottom of the third after hitting a double to left field, scoring Makenzie Mason.

ECU would put the game away in the bottom of the fourth, recording three hits and seven runs to make it 13-0 going into the fifth inning.

The Vikings would load the bases and threaten the shutout in the top of the fifth inning, but Payton Hudson would have Cleveland State's batter strike out swinging to end the game.

Taylor Apple (1-0) picked up her first collegiate win in the circle, allowing just one hit in four innings.
